Thank you for assisting with our dreams! The proverb, “Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, teach him to fish and he eats for a lifetime” comes to mind when thinking about the valuable insight the Hawaiʻi SBDC offers.

Bakety Bake saw their sales grow from $2000 to $100,000 within a year

Kourtney started Bakety Bake in 2018, just after having her 4th baby as a way to earn extra income and to be creative. It began as a home-based bakery, where she sold custom decorated sugar cookies. In baking and decorating thousands of sugar cookies, she found the market was really lacking a meringue powder for making royal icing that was easy to use and didn't taste like cardboard. This led Kourtney to begin producing a higher quality meringue powder for royal icing. Kourtney experienced rapid growth and quickly outgrew her home kitchen. The SBDC helped Kourtney to scale up her business, develop her online presence, develop her tarde show presence and get her bookkeeping up to date so that Kourtney can track her progress and margins.

The SBDC team at Harper College is fantastic. Their wisdom, patience, business perspectives and suggestions have given me the guidance I needed to move confidently in the direction I'm going in. I always look forward to my advisory sessions.

Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year: Sea Salt & Cinnamon

Amanda Reninger founded Sea Salt & Cinnamon in 2014 and became the first vegan food company in the city of Muncie. Her husband, Kyle Reninger, joined her venture, creating the savory side of the company's menu. Focusing on special populations with strict dietary restrictions has created a thriving business and sense of inclusivity for all foodies. The Indiana SBDC has offered critical support through COVID challenges in the past 2 years. In 2022 she is looking to become certified as a WOB, as a number of universities and local organizations would like to engage for wholesale purposes.
