When I thought I had watched every ‘small business startup’ video on YouTube, I was ready to call it quits. After talking with NH SBDC, I knew there were untapped resources out there to help me get off the ground with confidence.

Simple & Sentimental grows from dorm room to 7,000 square foot warehouse

Taylor Walden was 18 years old when she launched the personalized gift company Simple & Sentimental in her dorm room at East Carolina University in 2016. After tripling its revenue from 2018 to 2019, the pandemic halted the company's growth. Simple & Sentimental learned to adapt, pivoting to produce face shields and then again to launch a line of quarantine-themed gift boxes. The company moved into a new facility in 2021 with more than $1 million in annual sales and 15 employees.

Jessie McDaniel Opens Her Dream Business, Dragonfly Desserts

With over 12 years in the baking industry, Jessie McDaniel wanted to start her own business, Dragonfly Desserts. After learning about the SBDC, she registered for advising and was assigned to Business Advisor Claudia Pannell. Working together, they created a business and financial plan and found a storefront location in Stillwater. McDaniel obtained a license from Oklahoma State University and was able to use their logos on her high-end dessert cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. By February 2022, Dragonfly Desserts was open for business, and McDaniel has fostered a strong relationship with the community. “My advisor walked me through step by step what I needed to do. I could not have accomplished this without Claudia's help,” said McDaniel.
