Winona Bat Company strikes a deal with Major League Baseball
When childhood best friends Zak Fellman and Dan Watson first turned their hobby of making baseball bats into a business in 2015, they never imagined the opportunity to create bats with art honoring their favorite baseball team: the Minnesota Twins. Now, Fellman, Watson, and their coworkers at Pillbox Bat Company, have achieved their Major League dreams, striking a licensing deal with Major League Baseball to officially design bats, pennants, and other art for all 30 MLB teams.

Lakota woman taps Indigenous healing remedies to launch Mankato business
Megan Schnitker learned from a young age that she could turn to nature’s medicine to ease many of the aches and pains she experienced while growing up on a farm in South Dakota.
“My uncle Neil started teaching me about healing plants when we were pretty little because as soon as the sun comes up, you go outside and play or you help do chores all day,” said Schnitker. “And you know, cuts, scrapes, burns, and bug bites, all happen because it's the farm.”
As her interest in the healing properties of plants grew, Schnitker realized she wanted to share her knowledge with others. In 2018, with help from the SBDC, she launched Lakota Made – a retail store in Old Town Mankato. She has also begun teaching her 8-year old daughter about the healing plants.
