RURAL DEVELOPMENT

Grafton True Value Expands to New Location

Full-service lumber and hardware store Grafton True Value had worked with the ND SBDC in the past and came back for help when they looked to expand and move to a new location. "They were a godsend when we got to sitting down and pushing numbers. They are helpful. They are knowledgeable. They're the whole package," said Kerry and Carole DeMars, owners. A hardware store is a critical service in a small community, and the ND SBDC is pleased to have helped this business succeed and grow.

TECH DEVELOPMENT

OmniByte Helps Service Workers with Mobile Field App

OmniByte has seen growth year-over-year since founding its business, and every step of the way, they have needed additional funding to help that growth. "The SBDC was absolutely instrumental in that because, without the help, I couldn't have prepared the financial statement and forecasts necessary to get the types of funding we were looking for without diluting our organization," says Ray Berry, President & CEO. The ND SBDC is proud to have worked with Ombnibyte since its inception in 2015.

COVID-19 RESPONSE

Prairie Sky Breads Grows from Farmers Market to Physical Location

Prairie Sky Breads in Minot, began as a passion project sold at farmer's markets. They worked hard toward the goal of a physical location that opened its doors in February 2020. The community supported them, and they found a path through COVID-19 and beyond. “I think it is probably impossible to open a new business and not be overwhelmed. Our business has always been relatively limber and agile – from working through the COVID-19 challenges, we have needed to be quick on our feet," says Travis.

VETERANS

Barfield Farm Fresh brings aquaponics to the Minot Region

Robert Barfield, a 100% service-disabled veteran, is doing something unique and exciting right on his farm. With the guidance of the ND SBDC, he is making a difference in the Minot region with aquaponics. Robert met with Mary Beth, his ND SBDC advisor, after attending a Boots to a Business training workshop in 2017. While his commercial greenhouse is being built, Robert is starting with a 300-gallon fish tank connected to various filters. Plans are in place to build roughly a 100 ft long by 32 ft wide greenhouse after the concrete is poured in the spring of 2023.  “I would definitely recommend the ND SBDC. Mary Beth gives suggestions but allows me to make a decision for myself; she's always giving pointers," said Robert.

Prairie Dental Expands Local Practice with Relocation

Dr. Jennifer Sarsland returned home after dental school and went to work at an established dental clinic. A short time later, she had the opportunity to become a partner, and they looked to expand into a new location. With the help of the ND SBDC, Prairie Dental secured the funding needed to renovate a vacant medical clinic space into their new offices. "I would recommend the ND SBDC services to other aspiring entrepreneurs," stated Dr. Sarsland.
