Mitchell Processing Company is a Family Business
Three brothers, also longtime coworkers, are keeping a Mitchell, NE, meat processing company locally owned. Rigo & Luis Rodriguez had worked at Robinson's Meat Processing Co. for over a decade, while their Edgar had been an employee for four years. When the opportunity arose, the three decided to purchase the company. They worked with the SBDC to develop their business plan and financial projections and on their applications for loans and local LB840 funds to successfully transition the business to their ownership. Today, Rigo says demand for the company's services has been growing, with the plant processing an average of 20 head of cattle a week. He says the Nebraska SBDC helped make a complicated process achievable.

BeAmbi & Company is Creating Opportunities for Young People to Develop Their Talents
Rayneesha Yvonne's goal is to further the creative talents of youth in north and northwest Omaha, so she founded a studio named BeAmbi & Company, short for “Be Ambitious.” Yvonne worked with the Nebraska SBDC with the focus of opening a dance studio to offer an array of classes. She also wanted to offer visual arts classes like photography and filmmaking. The SBDC assisted with a business plan, three-year financial projections, and market research for site selection. Yvonne was able to get a loan and grant, she and hired three employees. She opened her studio in April 2022 and has been attracting eager young people ever since. “So many of my students say they needed this kind of support. This is a safe place for their creative interests.”

McCook Bee Little Childcare & Preschool Expanding
Bee Little Childcare & Preschool in McCook, Neb., is growing faster than the children it serves. Amanda and Josh Mullen worked with the Nebraska SBDC in late 2019 for help purchasing an existing childcare center. “It was huge for me,” Amanda recalls. “I could walk into the bank with the needed information and feel much more confident.” They purchased the center in May 2020 and have since tripled the number of teachers and staff and quadrupled the number of children in their care. In 2022, they secured a second location – a pre-existing childcare that had closed due to COVID-19. They have been working hard getting the facility ready and hiring another 10 to 12 staff members.
