Small-Scale Fishing Operation Contributes to Local Economy

Benjamin Numaw and Judy Reng are a young couple living in a small village in the southern part of Yap Island. They have recently started a small-scale side business selling fresh local fish. They were referred to the Yap Small Business Development Center for assistance for financial projections and business plan. Business Advisor was able to guide them throughout the process. They were approved for funding and eventually purchased the boat and started their fishing business.

Young Entrepreneur Starts a Jewelry Business

Collecting sea glass and seashells has been one of Jayna Kasiano's hobbies since she was a child. Her parents would take her to the beach often, which was her favorite place. Two years ago, she learned she could make these little jewels into wearable jewelry. Palau SBDC has helped her learn to expand her reach and is helping her to grow by offering tools, resources, and advice. It took a few months of research and testing jewelry items from different vendors to see which she could use to make her products. "Do what you love" is the advice she shares with others.

FloWater Providing Better Quality Water to Guam

Daniel Taitingfong is a Army National Guard veteran who started FloWater after retirement. My vision was to provide our island (Guam) with better quality water and supporting the initiative to create a more sustainable island and reduce single-use plastic pollution. The Guam SBDC was a big help in getting my business started... Looking back, I can see the importance of having a complex business plan that covers all the elements to start and run a successful business.
