FloWater Providing Better Quality Water to Guam
Daniel Taitingfong is a Army National Guard veteran who started FloWater after retirement. My vision was to provide our island (Guam) with better quality water and supporting the initiative to create a more sustainable island and reduce single-use plastic pollution. The Guam SBDC was a big help in getting my business started... Looking back, I can see the importance of having a complex business plan that covers all the elements to start and run a successful business.

The advice I would give a veteran just starting out is to save money when times are good for those inevitable slow times (there will be slow times)!!! I served in the Army, 82nd Airborne Division, Infantry from 2000-2003.

SD SBDC Assists Dental Practice transition between two Navy Veterans
Originally an SBDC startup in 2016, Wermerson Orthodontics had outgrown its space. When the property was on the market, a new client, Dr. Haiar of the Sioux Falls Dental Implant Center, worked with the SBDC to secure financing. Unique to this situation is the fact that both doctors, in addition to being SBDC clients, were also both Navy Veterans! “I had to compile all this info for the loan, and Daniel Cook of the SBDC helped me put together the business plan, and he was awesome,” said Dr. Haiar. “With me being busy at work, he was available at all hours to text or call at any time, and we were able to get everything done on a tight timeline.”

Slow batch made in a fast paced world
Drop Zone Distilling was founded by Rod Parton, the US Army's 82nd Airborne veteran, and Highway Patrolman. A fourth-generation moonshiner, Rod produces small batches from his original family recipes to ensure optimum flavor. Drop Zone used the TSBDC's help to develop a business plan, secure financing, and market their products. Drop Zone is receiving assistance from the TSBDC as they prepare to open a second facility in 2023.
